Sept 7th, 2013 race recap and final season standings

Well, here is the last race recap. We unloaded on Sept 7th fast. Setting the pace with fastest laps in both the first and second practice sessions. Followed that up by setting fast time in qualifying as well. Looking for a back-to-back victory, we started in the rear of the field for the 35 main event but never even made it past the starting line for the drop of the green.

As we came out of turn 4 to take the green, the flagger dropped the yellow (for unknown reasons and is something you NEVER do as a flagman) cars bunched up quickly and I slammed into the #10 car in front of me. It was mostly cosmetic damage but did ruin the handling of the car.  We were able to make it back onto the track for the restart after some quick repairs in the pit area. We were passing some cars and looking at passing the #89 car on the inside coming out of 4 when we made contact and sent us a little airborne and causing severe damage to our RF and some shoulder pain to the driver. Again, our great crew was able to make quick repairs to get us back out for the restart (barely) and again we passed some cars and climbed up to 4th...needing just another lap or two to pass car #10 for 3rd but ran out of time. We settled for the 4th place finish with a damaged car and 1/2 second slower-than-usual lap times. The good news is, that through the determination and hard work from our crew, we were able to secure 2nd place in points for the season by a mere 5 points over third place car #10!

We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors and partners for the 2013 season- Loggers Pizza, Loggers Tap House, Kamper Korner RV Center, Blue Ox, Pepsi Max,
Invictus Technical Solutions, Umpqua Armory, Southern Oregon Telecom and my special #1 fan of the year...Miss Caroline from Chicago, Illinois! Without these great partners and wonderful fans, we truly would not be on the track!

Watch for the incar camera video from this last race to be posted soon.

And the winner is....

Congratulations to Caroline Blumer!

She is the winner of the 2013 'KRT Fan of the Year' contest!

Caroline Blumer is nine years old and a third grader at Indian Trail Elementary School in Highland Park, IL. She is a huge fan of the KRT #28 car and driver Wade Koens.

Caroline spends her spare time playing forward on her travel soccer club, the Chicago Magic, and skiing the Rockies with her two brothers, Matthew and Nicholas. When she is not busy scoring goals and shredding the slopes, she enjoys playing basketball and softball, and hanging out with her friends dancing, laughing and being silly. She is currently active in the Jr. Great Books reading program through her school, and in the process of seeking out a service project. Caroline goes to Game on 4 Girls sports camp during the summer, and her favorite drivers are Jeff Gordon and Danica Patrick .

Caroline is looking forward to making a trip to the west coast to see the #28 in action this summer!

As the winner of the 2013 'KRT Fan of the Year' contest, we will gladly place a decal of Caroline's actual autograph (seen above) on our #28 Chevy Impala SS for the entire 2013 season. Watch for her decal on the car in pictures throughout the season! Congratulations Caroline and thank you for supporting us!

Welcome Southern Oregon Telecom!

Koens Racing Team is very excited to announce the addition of Southern Oregon Telecom to our sponsor lineup for 2013!

Southern Oregon Telecom will be our primary sponsor for our incar camera. They were gracious enough to purchase a new GoPro Hero 3 Wifi video camera for our team in exchange for the sponsorship and marketing coverage. We will place their logo at the start of each and every video we post from our incar camera during the 2013 season!

With the built-in Wifi, the GoPro Hero 3 will allow us to stream our racing video live to any smart phone or tablet (3 second delay). We will also work on setting up a streaming video to a URL over the internet so fans that are not able to attend the race live can still catch the action online.

We will also attempt to capture the radio chatter between our spotter and driver during the races, blending it together with the video. This will allow our fans to not only see what the driver sees but also hear the driver and his spotter during the race as well!

In 2007, we became one of the first super late models cars to ever post incar racing videos online at youtube. We did this by taking a Canon handheld 8mm video camera and mounting it inside the car to a roll bar and hoping for the best. It was shaky and had terrible audio but it worked and we eventually evolved from there.

Since we have the new GoPro Hero 3 and our old GoPro Hero, we will now be able to run the older camera towards the rear of the car, giving you two different views of the racing action and we will split the screen on playback for our youtube channel!

KRT welcomes another great sponsor!

Koens Racing Team is happy to announce that Thetford corporation will be joining the team as an associate sponsor for the upcoming 2013 season!

Thetford is a well recognized and respected name in the RV and Marine industries. From toilets to holding tank deodorants, or the popular line of Norcold refrigerators, Thetford is a leader, innovator and winner...a perfect match to join our team.

The next time you need RV/Marine accessories or a refrigerator for your semi truck, racecar hauler, RV or boat, look for a great product from Thetford. You can find their products at nearly every RV/Marine dealership around, including locally at Kamper Korner RV Center in Roseburg, Oregon.

KRT Retains Major Sponsor for 2013 & Beyond

Koens Racing Team and Invictus Technical Solutions (ITS) of Roseburg, Oregon have agreed to extend their partnership for the 2013 season and beyond. ITS became KRT's major sponsor in 2012 bringing incredible support to the #28 Chevy Impala SS team driven by Wade Koens of Roseburg, Oregon. "Invictus Technical Solutions has been a key contributor and partner for myself, our entire team and the sport itself " said Wade Koens. Koens went on to say, "We are very excited to have Josh, Chris and the whole gang at ITS back on the hood for 2013 and for many years to come!"

Look for Wade Koens in the #28 ITS Chevy Impala SS and the whole KRT team to come out aggressive and pickup a win at the opening race on May 11th at the Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon.
