Race video from Shasta Speedway 10-28-2012

Wow! What a weekend of racing in Northern California for us! We unloaded decent posting the 7th fastest time in practice #1 Friday. Saturday we posted the 5th fastsest time and qualified 7th fastest placing us on the pole for the fast qualifying heat race Saturday night.

Finished the fast qualifying heat race in 4th place. After the roll of the dice resulted in a 4, we ended up on the pole for the Western 100 main event slated for Sunday afternoon.

As you will see in the video, after just a couple of laps into the race, my car was a handful and very loose. I tried to stay with the pack but went into turn 3 too high and too hard resulting in a 4 wheel slide. I couldnt save it and ended up getting hit in the left front, snapping the lower control arm in half and thus ending our trip to Shasta Speedway.

Look for us to rebound in 2013 and once again bring the #28 Chevy to victory lane.

Special thanks go out to Invictus Technical Solutions and RV Amercia Insurance for their strong support and making sure we were able to attend this race. Also, thanks go out to The Gaia Hotel & Spa for hosting our entire crew at their beautiful property for all 3 nights!

Results from Sept 8,2012

Well, we had one faaaast car on this weekend but it didnt start out that way at all! After unloading the car, we found the throw-out bearing for the clutch was bad and leaking out the fluid which meant the entire driveline, transmission and clutch had to come out. Luckily, Riley Watson was generous enough to drive into town to grab one that he had in his shop. We installed that and were ready for our one and only practice session...#3 of the day for everyone else. In that practice we were already fast. We recorded a 15.348 lap time which was 2nd fastest compared to the 15.325 from Tom Elam in the #4 car.

We then prepped the car with our qualifying package and waited for our turn on the track. As the car rolled onto the track and into turn 1, I could feel the excellent grip and knew I would have a fast lap time.  My previous best lap time ever (over the last 8 years) was a 15.33 that I set last year. After coming out of turn 4 I looked up at the scoreboard to see my lap time but saw what looked like a 15.24, so for my 2nd and final lap, I gave it a little extra and put the car at the very edge of stability. As I gassed it coming out of turns 3/4 the rear rotated too much and sent me for a loop. It would have been a great lap. So, I came off the track and into my pit area thrilled with my 15.24! Only to find out that the scoreboard was not working at all and what I saw was the time of day 5:24pm. Bummed, I figured that maybe I got into the 15.3 or 15.4 but really had no idea until I was told that we actually ended up with a 15.06! A great lap and exactly what we have expected from this car and myself as a driver. Could the 2nd lap have been faster and actually gone into the 14.9 second barrier? I think so! So we ended up with the 2nd fastest lap time because Alan Cress in the #91 got a 15.01. Kyle Pope in the #72 got 3rd with a 15.13 and Tom Elam got 4th fastest with a 15.18. The top 4 were seperated by a tenth of a second.

After qualifying it was found that our left front control arm mount was bent on the frame which needed to be pulled out and welded. We missed the heat race while making those repairs.

Starting in the last row in the main event, we worked our way up to 3rd after about 20 laps. On a restart, the inside row didnt move, allowing the outside row to pass sending me to 6th within one lap. We ran out of time and ended up 5th for the 35 lap race. Not the result we wanted but ended up tied for the fastest lap of the main with 2 other cars at 15.2. We can take alot of positives from this weekend for sure.

Testing tonight, racing tomorrow!

We will practice tonight at the Douglas County Speedway from 4pm-8pm. As you may know, this is a great opportunity to see the high speeds up close and for only $3 a person, it is a real bargain!

It does appear that the weather will cooperate and allow us to race tomorrow! We anticipate a great night of racing and look forward to our first full race of the 2012 season. During the lineup introductions of our main event, look for the flagman to throw a custom #28 signed hat into the crowd before the drop of the green!!

Motor update

As many of you know, we were not able to qualify at all for the race on May 19th. We continued to struggle getting the motor above 6500RPM. After changing the fuel pump and distributor we are now confident that we need to have the cam shaft replaced.

We pulled the engine Monday night May 21st and it is getting a new cam installed as we speak. The engine is currently on the dyno and we should have it back later today.

We dont anticipate any more issues and should be able to make the next race on June 2nd! Thanks for all of our fans and sponsors support and patience while we worked through these racing bugs.

Look for the #28 ITS Impala SS to run up front for the rest of the season! See you at the track!!

Racing again this weekend!

Our #28 Pepsi Max Super Late Model will once again be on the race track this Saturday night! The first race of the season on May 5th, didn't turn out well for us. After installing a new motor the night before, the team struggled with an electrical issue all day. Finally conceding that the distributor was faulty. The team has since installed a new distributor and the motor sounds beautiful.

After blowing the engine during lap 12 of the first test session of 2012, KRT was able to have a new engine built and delivered 1 day before the first race of 2012 only 2 weeks later! The crew installed that engine, working hard into the morning hours Saturday morning and was at the track Saturday afternoon only to find the distributor issues wouldn't allow the engine to get over 6000RPM thus ending the day for KRT and the #28 Chevy Impala SS.

KRT is anxious to race this weekend and anticipates a good showing. 'We hope to have a solid top 3 finish', said Wade Koens, driver of the #28 Impala. Koens went on to say, 'Because of our issues on the track since the first test session back on April 21st, we really have not had any laps yet this season, so this race is our first chance to tune the setup. We want to find speed and load up a clean car at the end of the night'.

KRT wishes to thanks all of our sponsors for their amazing support. Please consider our sponsors for your goods and services. Pepsi Max, 'ITS' Invictus Technical Solutions, Blue Ox Towing Products, Kamper Korner RV Center & The Oregon State Fair.

As always, please visit our Facebook page and 'like' us today! Thanks! KRT
